Hi, I’m George Roots, a Software Engineering Manager with 20+ years of experience navigating the ever-changing waters of product development, particularly in the exciting worlds of FinTech, EdTech, and mobile. I guess you could say I’ve been around the block a few times (and have the lines on my forehead to prove it!). But that experience has given me a knack for building, leading, and inspiring teams to deliver exceptional results. I thrive on turning complex challenges into innovative solutions, and I’m not afraid to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty (metaphorically, of course – I’m a manager now!).

I’m passionate about leading high-performing teams and crafting elegant code – with a growing interest in the power of AI. My technical skills lean towards React and JavaScript but I firmly believe people are more important than tools. I consider the ability to hire and grow amazing talent my super power. I’ve had the pleasure of assembling teams that consistently exceed expectations, like the time we took a team from consistently missing deadlines to going a full year without a single slip-up. Another time, I managed an almost entirely offshore team and helped them pivot an in-person business strategy to a thriving online model in just three months during the peak of COVID – talk about a trial by fire! We also helped raise $500k in capital during that time, proving that remote work can be just as effective, if not more so.

I’m not just about the code and the sprint cycles, though. I genuinely enjoy fostering a positive and productive work environment where everyone feels empowered to contribute their best. Consider me a player-coach – I’m always ready to jump in and help, but I also know when to step back and let my team shine.

When I’m not busy shaping the future of technology, you can find me whipping up culinary masterpieces in the kitchen (I make a mean lasagna, if I do say so myself), strategizing my next move on the chessboard, or agonizing over my fantasy football lineup (a passion/obsession for over 15 years!). As a dad of four, I’ve also mastered the art of parallel processing and crisis management – skills that surprisingly translate well to the tech world.

I’m always eager to connect with fellow professionals, share insights, and explore new opportunities. Let’s connect and chat about how we can build the next big thing together!
